Experience

During my internship experiences I had the following experiences:

Responsive Services – Elementary

o        Counseling individual students for particular issues (ex. problems with friends, adjustment issues, anger issues, upset students)

o        Assisting in classroom (ex. for large classes, out of control classes, classes with substitutes, classes with students I was working with)

o        Supervising student “time-outs” from classroom for behavior issues and other disciplinary functions

o        Researching individual student issues (ex. sensory integration disorder, anger management)

o        Providing rocket math assistance for student

o        Organizing and supervising play/social groups

o        Consulting with teachers and parents over individual student issues

o        Checking in on students in classrooms for behavior and other issues

o        Conducting FBA Interviews with students

o        Conducting FBA Observations

o        Observing and reporting on classroom behavior for Student Support Services referrals

o        Providing crisis interventions to upset students

o        Conducting time-on-task observations

o        Completing observation and other responsive services related paperwork

o        Supervising students who needed to complete classroom work during recess

 

Individual Planning – Elementary

o        Observing students in classroom for gifted referrals

o        Observing students in classroom for support services

o        Consulting with supervisor, teachers, and parents to meet individual student needs

Guidance Curriculum – Elementary

o        Helping to plan and implement district’s first annual Red Ribbon Week, including:

o        Decorating school and classrooms

o        Sending letters to parents and faculty

o        Coordinating guidance lessons

o        Creating video announcements with students

o        Organizing contests

o        Participating in revision of K-12 developmental guidance curriculum

o        Reviewing and researching guidance lesson plans

System Support – Elementary

o        Meeting with faculty supervisor and internship supervisor on a weekly basis

o        Attending faculty meetings

o        Maintaining daily logs

o        Providing lunch duty assistance

o        Providing assistance during dismissal

o        Supervising students during assemblies

o        Reviewing student cases with supervisor and teachers

o        Assisting with televised morning announcements

o        Participating in in-service meetings

o        Assisting with holiday events (ex. Halloween parade)

o        Assembling bulletin boards and decorating school

 

Responsive Services – Secondary

o        Planning and presenting a seminar on cyberbulling, internet safety and social networking sites (eg. MySpace)

o        Offering study skills help to students

o        Participating in IEP meetings

o        Counseling individual students (ex. social issues, new student issues, academic issues)

o        Assisting with student scheduling issues, including returning parent phone calls about scheduling

o        Answering parent and student questions about applying to college and SAT/ACT

o        Consulting with counselors and teachers over individual student issues

o        Evaluating new student surveys and compiling results

o        Researching issues relevant to individual student concerns

o        Working with the NCAA Clearinghouse website for students intending to play sports in college

 

Individual Planning – Secondary

o        Developing and facilitating a seven week transition workshop for students with learning disabilities who are going to college next year

o        Conducting student meetings on career planning

o        Preparing multi-disciplinary evaluation referral

o        Consulting with supervisor, teachers, and parents to meet individual student needs

o        Completing paperwork for observations and other individual planning related events

o        Administering AP Examinations

o        Planning for students who need accommodations for testing

o        Informing teachers and faculty about new students

o        Assisting with college applications

o        Conducting new student interviews

o        Attending service agreement meetings

o        Supervising college representative visits with students

o        Conducting freshman and junior meetings

o        Participating in IEP meetings

 

Guidance Curriculum – Secondary

o        Participating in revision of K-12 developmental guidance curriculum

o        Adminstering and proctoring the SAT, the ACT (with extended time), the PSSA (including make-ups and re-takes), and the TerraNova (with extended time)

o        Delivering career unit classroom presentations

o        Assisting with the college fair

o        Co-facilitating a counseling department presentation at an in-service meeting

o        Writing for and proofing the department newsletter

o        Attending student support services meeting

o        Preparing for school-wide survey and mailings

o        Preparing for PSAT, PSSA, ACT, SAT, and TerraNova

 

System Support – Secondary

o        Presenting to parents and students at the senior meeting

o        Meeting with faculty supervisor and internship supervisor on a weekly basis

o        Reviewing student cases with supervisor, counselors, and teachers

o        Supervising students during assemblies

o        Participating in in-service meetings

o        Preparing materials for guidance office, large group meetings, and parent mailings

o        Working with principal on PSSA research

o        Participating in meetings regarding dual enrollment

o        Attending School Board, PTSO, and Youth Steering Committee meetings

o        Research on current issues of interest for department

o        Communicating with other local school districts about AP classes and exams and PSSA results
